Welcome … Bienvenue …

Welcome

Our two gites are situated in the picturesque and tranquil countryside of the Perigord Vert national park in the Dordogne, land of charming villages, chateaux, caves, lakes and woods. rabbitsSet amongst 30 acres of meadow and woodland, our horses, ponies, alpacas, rabbits and hens happily roam around making it an idyllic spot for relaxing and escaping busy lives. It is a haven for wildlife and birds and you can while away long, carefree days soaking up the sunshine in perfect peace and then enjoy balmy starlit evenings with a glass of wine on your terrace…what’s not to love?!

So much to do …

Walk or cycle the quiet country lanes, canoe down rivers, swim in the many beautiful lakes around, visit villages and chateaux ….so much to see and do or just kick back with a book and enjoy the birdsong all around…choices, choices…:D

At only 50 minutes from Limoges airport, we are very quick and easy to get to as well!

Watch our alpacas, ponies, rabbits and horses play….Wander the quiet lanes and paths, through peaceful woods and beside tranquil lakes…. enjoy a glass of wine on your terrace whilst watching the sun set on another perfect day….

our gites

A tranquil time awaits …

To maintain the quiet and privacy for you during your stay, we only ever rent one of the gites at a time which means that you are safe in the knowledge that you won’t be disturbed by anyone else other than the odd nosy hen pecking around or one of the horses popping their heads over your fence!! Both gites are priced the same so you are free to choose whichever takes your fancy! You can, of course, rent both gites together if you are a group of family/friends and a discount will apply for this so please just ask! It works really well as each couple/family has their own space but are just across the garden if you want to get more social!!

Ian and I live on site but are as hands on or off as you require!

The gites are provided with a starter pack of essentials to get you going which consists of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, olive oil, salt, pepper, washing up liquid, cling film, bin bags and a couple of toilet rolls.

If you are going to be arriving late or on a sunday, when a lot of the shops are closed, then let us know and we can get your shopping in for you!

You will also find a full range of cleaning products which we have sourced to be septic tank friendly so please use only these as and when required and we just ask that you leave the gite clean and tidy.

Our surroundings

Beautiful surroundings …

We may be in a tiny hamlet but we are only 2 minutes drive away from the pretty little village of Saint-Jory-De-Chalais where you will find a well stocked shop/post office with the bonus of an attached bar….  shopping can sometimes take a while….Christophe and Carine are the very friendly owners and speak good English too! It’s a picturesque 35 minute walk along quiet tracks and lanes if you want to go without the car and we highly recommend it! The village also has a very nice restaurant, lunch is great value, and Boulangerie too.

In the spring and summer months there is a bar/restaurant (evenings only)at the campsites of Maisonneuve and Le Tourelet. Both provide fantastic food and drink in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We are also just 15 minutes away from the small town of La Coquille where you will find a supermarket or 20 minutes to the pretty market town of Thiviers which has a choice of supermarkets and a fantastic market on a Saturday morning….arriving early is a must though as it’s all over by lunchtime!!

About Us

You can follow our adventures on Facebook!

After 12  years of running a bed and breakfast and caring for an ever increasing menagerie of animals in the beautiful highlands of Scotland,  we decided it was high time for a new adventure!  So with the business sold, our stuff packed, our many and varied animals loaded on transport and excitement levels at fever pitch, off we headed to the idyllic and considerably more sunshiny Dordogne in the South West of France!

Well if you’re going to have a change then why not think big change!!

bird

It has been, and still is at times, a roller coaster ride with lots of laughter, tears (mainly me!!),  madness (mainly Ian!) and fun along the way as we settle into our new lives, making friends and dealing with the challenges of a new country…not to mention trying to get to grips with the French language!! Give us 10 years and we might get there….  although our mime skills are second to none now!!

We’ve spent our first year and a half renovating the two gites and they are now ready to be launched officially!! So here we go with our new venture into the world of self catering rental…exciting times ahead and we are looking forward to welcoming you all to our little bit of
paradise in France!
